In the United States, a notary is not a lawyer. Do not pay a notario for immigration help.

In some countries, a notario is a special lawyer. In the United States, that is not true. Here, a notary can stamp a paper. A notary cannot give immigration advice. A notary cannot pick your form. A notary cannot speak for you with USCIS. Only two kinds of people can give immigration legal help: one, a licensed lawyer. Two, an accredited representative at a recognized organization. If someone says notario, gestor, or I have a friend in immigration, stop. Do not give them your green card or passport.
