If USCIS approves your N-400, you still have one more step. You take the Oath of Allegiance at a ceremony. Sometimes the ceremony is the same day as the interview. Sometimes you get a notice later. That notice is Form N-445. At the ceremony you check in. An officer may ask if anything changed. You give back your green card. That is normal. You take the Oath. Then you get a Certificate of Naturalization. Look at every letter on that certificate before you leave. If a name or date is wrong, say so before you walk out. After that day you may apply for a U.S. passport. You may vote. You also have new duties, like jury service if called. An approval letter is not the Oath. The Oath is the Oath.
